Alumni
Children who participate in Opus 118’s programs learn skills that help them – not only musically, but scholastically and socially as well. After graduation, many Opus 118 music students attend college, continue playing an instrument professionally or become professionals in other fields including law, medicine, nonprofit work, education and business.
Through the Alumni Tracking Project, we have found that many alumni continue to play the violin or viola professionally or just for enjoyment. It was through Opus 118 that these alumni had an opportunity to learn an instrument that otherwise would not have been available to them.
Alumni have also used the skills acquired through Opus 118 music lessons – concentration, determination, work-ethic and focus – to gain entry into specialized schools, music institutions and colleges such as: LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, Juilliard, Mannes College of Music, Duke University, Stanford, and Brown.
“A program such as Opus 118 gives our children the very skills necessary to cope with the problems of their future. It produces not just violinists, but doctors and lawyers and dreams, as well.” -Itzhak Perlman, Violin Virtuoso & Advisory Board Member
