You’re Invited: Spring Fundraiser Event, June 15th at 7pm

Beginning on this date and ending on Thursday, June 17th, we are looking to raise $20,000 to support our In-School and After-School Programs as we plan our return to in-person lessons and classes and serve even more East Harlem students with quality music education.

Join us for a special live stream event on our Facebook and YouTube pages featuring student and faculty performances, as well as speeches and testimonials from Opus 118 faculty, staff, alumni, and families. This virtual event will help us celebrate all of the fantastic music-making in the Opus 118 community during the last year while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. The creativity did not end when we moved our lessons online and we look forward to sharing the exciting accomplishments of the last year with our friends and supporters.

Check out opus118.org, your email, or our Facebook on Tuesday, June 15th for more information on this exciting and essential opportunity for Opus 118. We thank you in advance for your support!

Community Update 10/29

Community Update 10/29

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we began the fall with online instruction, with the plan to phase in limited in-person events, classes, lessons, and rehearsals when possible. Given the ongoing changes in the COVID-19 situation, it may be necessary for us to flex between online and in-person formats throughout the school year. We are closely monitoring city, state, and federal guidelines and recommendations. This update to our fall plan is the result of that information, as well as input gathered from students, families, staff, faculty, audiences, supporters, medical experts, and peer institutions.

After-School Program

*  Private lesson instruction began online only for the fall semester the week of September 21st. Lessons will continue online until at least the end of winter break. We will evaluate a return to in-person lessons by January 4th and a new decision will be announced then for future months.

*  After-School Program Ensemble members will soon be notified of their ensemble placement for this school year. Digital assignments and coachings will be given beginning Wednesday, November 18th. Information will be emailed directly to these families.

*  More detailed information regarding After-School Program digital performance events will soon be sent to registered After-School Program families by email.

*  While we will not be hosting programming in-person until January, we are working to accommodate all who need to switch or return violins at the schools in the near future.

In-School Program

*  The In-School Program will be on pause until at least January 2021 due to mandates regarding NYC DOE vendors and social distancing. We hope to phase in in-person activity as soon as that becomes possible.

*  Families are encouraged to continue violin study through our After-School Program online until our return to school facilities. Registration materials are available now and it is not too late to register! Financial aid is available to those who qualify. For more information regarding lessons and immediate registration materials, please email myself at hbonhomme@opus118.org.

Our website will be updated regularly regarding our response to COVID-19 and any impacts it will have on our calendars and events.

Fall 2020 COVID-19 Update

Plan for Fall 2020

Since the close of our last school year, the Opus 118 Harlem School of Music community has been involved in a process of reimagining our programming with the goal of continuing to deliver accessible musical and educational experiences in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. As we look ahead to the new school year at Opus 118, health and safety will remain our top priority. To that end, we plan to begin the fall with online instruction, phasing in limited in-person events, classes, lessons and rehearsals when possible. We are closely monitoring city, state and federal guidelines and recommendations. More detailed information for every program will soon follow to each appropriate group.
