Community Update 10/29

Community Update 10/29

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we began the fall with online instruction, with the plan to phase in limited in-person events, classes, lessons, and rehearsals when possible. Given the ongoing changes in the COVID-19 situation, it may be necessary for us to flex between online and in-person formats throughout the school year. We are closely monitoring city, state, and federal guidelines and recommendations. This update to our fall plan is the result of that information, as well as input gathered from students, families, staff, faculty, audiences, supporters, medical experts, and peer institutions.

After-School Program

*  Private lesson instruction began online only for the fall semester the week of September 21st. Lessons will continue online until at least the end of winter break. We will evaluate a return to in-person lessons by January 4th and a new decision will be announced then for future months.

*  After-School Program Ensemble members will soon be notified of their ensemble placement for this school year. Digital assignments and coachings will be given beginning Wednesday, November 18th. Information will be emailed directly to these families.

*  More detailed information regarding After-School Program digital performance events will soon be sent to registered After-School Program families by email.

*  While we will not be hosting programming in-person until January, we are working to accommodate all who need to switch or return violins at the schools in the near future.

In-School Program

*  The In-School Program will be on pause until at least January 2021 due to mandates regarding NYC DOE vendors and social distancing. We hope to phase in in-person activity as soon as that becomes possible.

*  Families are encouraged to continue violin study through our After-School Program online until our return to school facilities. Registration materials are available now and it is not too late to register! Financial aid is available to those who qualify. For more information regarding lessons and immediate registration materials, please email myself at hbonhomme@opus118.org.

Our website will be updated regularly regarding our response to COVID-19 and any impacts it will have on our calendars and events.
